ABOUT ME
Peter Crossley BA Hons
Violin & Guitar teacher
beginners to intermediate
Hello
My name is Peter Crossley and I am a music teacher based in Waterford, near Hertford, Hertfordshire, where I teach both VIOLIN & GUITAR. I teach from my studio at home or I can come to you. I currently have students based all around the Hertfordshire and the North London area. I also teach at Watton-at-Stone Primary School, Hertfordshire and the Folan School of Music in Whetstone, North London, For these positions I am annually C.R.B. (criminal record bureau) checked.
My students range from 5 to 85 years old and we enjoy weekly fun packed lessons that are tailored to suit each individual. I can work with my students towards exams or purely for fun! I also try to introduce (unless otherwise instructed) as many music genres and styles as possible including POP, ROCK, CLASSICAL, FOLK and BLUES. I also try to help if students want to develop aspects of their songwriting, singing and performing skills. I myself sing and perform original material (including guitar and fiddle).
To find out more and to arrange for a FREE INTRODUCTORY LESSON / meeting please call me on my mobile 07876 786 389. Or you can e-mail me at petercrossley@mac.com Although my schedule is fairly full I do have some slots still available, so please get in touch and let's get you started!
I graduated in 1984 at Trent Polytechnic Nottingham in 3D / interior design and although I have now been teaching music for over 20 years after a successful career in design, I may still feel the need to rearrange your furniture! :-)

GUITAR TUITION
I encourage all my students to learn to read music and to grasp a basic understanding of music theory and song structure. However, the most important exercise is to get you playing your guitar as soon as possible, to enable you to decide how far and in what direction you want to utilise your new skill. Everyone has their own ideas and dreams, I am here to help you realise them.
I use a selection of books to help you get started. I have song based books that focus on strumming basic chords and rhythms to enable you to accompany yourself, classical books which focus on picking techniques and sight reading, also some blues books which form the basis of a more rock orientated direction. Some students develop their own songwriting skills along the way and I can also help you develop these.
However it's your decision, what do you want to do? How can I help?

VIOLIN TUITION
Typically I work with my students towards achieving their grades through the ABRSM (Associated Board of the Royal School of Music) and developing skills through the more traditional classical routes.
However, I am equally happy teaching jigs and reels and/or developing the skills to improvise and play within key structures, to enable the student to join in with other muscians in creating new tunes.
What is it that you would like to do? I can get you playing from the very first lesson.

SONGWRITING & PERFORMANCE
I have been writing and performing both individually and collaboratively for many years, performing both as a solo artist and within rock and folksy bands. I have supported The Blockheads and The Troggs and have had my music played on Radio 2.
I always encourage any interest students show for developing original material and I can prepare them to play it live! I can advise on getting in touch with other musicians if necessary or help them to find a small friendly audience to perform to at one of the many local open mike nights.
TESTIMONIALS

LYDIA
Peter has been teaching our daughters, Lydia and Lucy, for the past five years. The girls really enjoy their lessons and look forward to it every week. They are becoming competent guitarists. I would have no hesitation in recommending Peter.

Well, I think it
should be a bit more

but otherwise it is
quite well taught
and I enjoy it.

MARK
I took up the violin a year ago with some trepidation but with Peter's patience and enthusiasm, I am progressing well, despite my wife being sick of jigs!

JOEL
Peter has taught me for nine years now and I can truly say that I have enjoyed every minute! I can now play many different styles of music and we are steadily working through the abrsm exam schedule. I am currently working towards my grade 4 exam having passed my grades 1,2 & 3. As well as my exam pieces and scales, we also play modern pieces such as Coldplay and other bands which I love playing! What he has done for me, he can do for you!

SEREN
I love guitar, I can't think of what I would want to change. Mr Crossley has helped me and my brother to do something that we are both passionate about, and I LOVE playing the guitar now.

SARA
Peter was my guitar teacher for a while and from his lessons and encouragement I discovered my love and what some people say "talent" for writing and performing comedy songs. Peter has the knack of finding your strength and embracing it. Peter is kind, fun and a really good teacher.

MARIA
Fiddler on the hoof ... Excellent ! Highly recommended .... excellent teacher with a good sense of humour. At 50 something I was definitely a mature student but Peter taught me how to read music, play some violin and how to laugh at my own ghastly musical mistakes and "get over myself". Great with children too as he never talks down to them .. oh.. and your pets will love him :o)
